The eagerly awaited Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 auction is here, marking a pivotal moment for the five franchises eager to fortify their rosters for the upcoming T20 season. With players poised to undergo bidding today, the pivotal task of ensuring a seamless auction experience falls squarely on the capable shoulders of auctioneer Mallika Sagar Advani.

Having helmed the proceedings in the previous season, Mallika's adept handling of the auction process has made her a consistent choice for this critical role. Taking on the responsibility of auctioneer for a prestigious cricketing league like WPL for the first time in her career during the 2023 season, Mallika is poised to reprise her role, guiding players through the suspenseful bidding war.

Who is Mallika Sagar?

Mallika Sagar, a renowned Mumbai-based art collector and consultant specializing in Modern and Contemporary Indian art, serves as the auctioneer for the Women's Premier League (WPL) since its inception. Associated with the esteemed firm Art India Consultants, Mallika has brought her expertise to the forefront, distinguishing herself in the role previously undertaken by auctioneers such as Hugh Edmeades, Richard Madley, and Charu Sharma in the Indian Premier League.

Notably, Mallika expanded her auctioneering portfolio by participating in the Pro Kabaddi League auction in 2021, showcasing her versatility in handling diverse sports events. There are speculations suggesting that Mallika may continue her role as the auctioneer for the IPL 2024 auction, further solidifying her position in the cricketing landscape.

The upcoming WPL auction for 2024 is poised to witness the bidding for 165 players, comprising 104 Indian and 61 overseas players, with an additional 15 cricketers hailing from associate nations.

The task of assembling teams falls upon the five franchises—Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, and Royal Challengers—each vying to fill 30 slots. Among them, the Gujarat Giants face the challenge of filling the most vacant spots. As Mallika Sagar takes center stage, anticipation builds for another dynamic and impactful auction under her expert guidance.
