Bangladesh began their Asia Cup 2025 Super Four campaign on a high note, edging past Sri Lanka by four wickets in a thrilling contest on September 20. Chasing a target of 169, Bangladesh sealed the victory with just one ball to spare.

Skipper Litton Das expressed confidence in his side after the win but gave special credit to the bowlers rather than the batters.

Litton Das Opens Up After SL Win

Speaking to the reporters after the match, Litton Das singled out Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman for their disciplined spells.

"Before the Asia Cup, we played a couple of series and we batted really well and we chased down comfortably. We all know how dangerous Mustafizur is. It looked like a pretty good wicket to bat on. Mustafizur's 19th over and Taskin's 20th over, they changed the game. It looked like 190 but they kept it down. Taskin bowled a really good (final) over," Litton said.

Taskin dismissed the dangerous Pathum Nissanka, finishing with 1/37 in his four overs, while Mustafizur starred with figures of 3/20, removing Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis and Wanindu Hasaranga.

Das Lauds Saif

Das also lauded opener Saif Hassan, who scored a fluent 61 off 45 balls, and Towhid Hridoy for his match-shaping 58 off 37 deliveries.

"I know Saif can win games for Bangladesh. We all knew he's going to be a good player in UAE. I know his character and I know how he scores runs. Whenever you chase down like this, you are pumped up for the next game but we have to come again - new day, new team and we have to play our A game," Das concluded.

Despite a few late stumbles, Bangladesh crossed the line with contributions from Nasum Ahmed and Shamim Hossain in the final over.

The "Naagin Derby" lived up to its billing as a tense and entertaining clash. With this win, Bangladesh took an early lead in the Super Four stage, while Sri Lanka will aim to bounce back in their next match against Pakistan on September 23.
