The World Cup 2023 began with a game between New Zealand and England, who were the finalists of the 2019 World Cup. The Kiwis were on top of the Englishmen throughout the contest as they defeated Jos Buttler and the company with nine wickets in hand

Devon Conway and the youngster Rachin Ravindra did not let the English bowlers settle in the middle. Rachin Ravindra scored a blistering hundred and entered the elite list of batters with a century on the World Cup debut.

Team England, who are the defending champions, were miserable in their opening game of the World Cup 2023. The former English captain, Eoin Morgan who helped England lift their maiden World Cup trophy still believes in the England team and is rooting for them.

Here's what the former England captain said after England faced a miserable defeat:

"There will be a lot of calm heads in the dressing room, but there will also be a lot of honesty. Having shared a changing room with these guys, all the messages are built on a lot of thought and very rarely are there any flippant comments or people targeted. There is an awareness they are all in this together and collectively all trying to achieve the same plan by sticking to the same process."

Morgan believes that, this is the team who won the World Cup and most of them were there. Despite losing three league-stage games, England lifted the World Cup. He further added that one bad day cannot decide the team's run at the tournament.

"I tipped England to win the competition in the build-up and I still have complete faith. Nothing about today’s performance worries me when it comes to believing they can win the trophy. The advantage of having this format is that one bad day doesn’t ruin your tournament, when previously one bad day could have you home within a week. I still think they can and will win this World Cup."
