Legendary former Australia captain Meg Lanning is eager to continue leading the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise in the Women's Premier League (WPL) in India, revealed coach Jonathan Batty, who put paid on doubts that had emerged on the great cricketer's involvement in the league's second edition.

Batty confirmed Lanning will be involved in the Capitals' planning around the forthcoming WPL auction and will be captaining the inaugural season's runners-up again. Lanning had led her troops astutely and brought her 'A' game to the fore with the bat, scoring 345 runs in nine innings at a strike-rate of 139.11.

Lanning had shocked cricket lovers by announcing a premature retirement from international cricket last month at the age of 31, having earlier taken a mental health break from the sport. Regarded as one of the finest-ever captains to have graced the cricket field, the stalwart is known for her historic run at the helm with the all-conquering Australian side.

Lanning's retirement, however, had cast a cloud on her involvement in the WPL for Capitals, who would be delighted to know she is willing to don the captaincy hat once again and push to take the franchise one step forward from last time when they fell painstakingly at the final hurdle against Mumbai Indians (MI).

"I have been in conversation with Meg regularly. We were together in WBBL for Melbourne Stars as well. She is really looking forward to coming back and leading the team in the second edition. We played brilliant cricket throughout the tournament but we fell short in the final. We would want to go all the way in the second season."

The Capitals topped the league stage table with six wins in their eight matches before losing to champions MI. They have a remaining purse of INR 2.5 crores after undergoing their retention and release for the mini-auction to be held on Saturday (December 9).
