The long-lasting wait for Virat Kohli’s arrival has come to an end as the veteran Indian batter is ready to be in the action in the upcoming ODI series against Australia. Even after he returns to the game after a long time, there is a potential buzz about his future in the ODI format.

As the next ODI World Cup is coming in 2027, questions over Kohli’s availability have stirred a storm. With the buzz going strong, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik cleared the air on that matter.

Dinesh Karthik reveals Kohli’s goal for the 2027 ODI World Cup

After stepping away from the Test and T20I formats, Virat Kohli has set his focus solely on the 50-over format. As the King is returning in the Indian jersey after months for the upcoming ODI series against Australia, his participation in the 2027 ODI World Cup has become a mystery after Agarkar’s recent remark.

The former Indian skipper will turn 39 by the time, and the question looms over his future till the marquee tournament. As the fans became curious about that, Dinesh Karthik came to the rescue. In an Instagram video, the former star revealed that Kohli remains fully committed and serious about participating in the marquee tournament.

“He is keen to play the World Cup. In London, he was training during this big layoff that he had after a long time in his career. And, I also know that he was practising cricket easily two-three sessions a week,” he said.

“Now, that tells you that the man is serious about wanting to play the World Cup. And if he is around, there is no tension, according to me, because he knows what it takes to perform under pressure. He has done that time and time again, and I am very confident that he would do that again,” he added.

Kohli can be India’s X-factor in South Africa

In 2027, South Africa will host the World Cup, and Team India will be chasing the dream of lifting the trophy. Playing over the years on the South African soil, Virat Kohli’s record can be a massive boost for the Men in Blue. On the bouncy tracks, his 2018 campaign was phenomenal. Highlighting Kohli’s impact, Dinesh Karthik stressed that India will need his firepower to shine on the grand stage of the 2027 World Cup.

“If you see how India have played for some time now, he is the fulcrum. He is the most important glue in the team around whom everyone else plays. The likes of Gill, Rohit, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul all play attacking-positive cricket because they know there is a Virat Kohli to absorb pressure. In case things go wrong, he would take care of it from one end,” he said.

“The World Cup will be played in October-November. Having been part of the SA20, I can tell you that it’s the early part of their summer. So, the pitches will be slightly spicy. It will have something for the fast bowlers. It will always be hard and bouncy. He knows what it takes to handle pressure. He is the chasemaster,” he added.

Putting the 2027 World Cup aside, fans are waiting to see Virat Kohli’s first glimpse after the Champions Trophy final in March 2025. As the first ODI of the series will be played on October 19 against Australia, the entire world is waiting for some King Kohli magic.
