India is a cricket-crazy nation, and there are a lot of emotions attached to the performance of the national side, irrespective of the format. One of the most emotional moments in recent times was India's T20 World Cup win in Barbados on June 29, 2024.

How Pant Broke South Africa's Momentum?

It was a nervy win by just seven runs and was quite a roller-coaster ride, with South Africa putting pressure on India multiple times. One such moment was when Heinrich Klaasen smashed Axar Patel all over the park in the 15th over to bring the equation down to 30 in the final five overs.

The next over was bowled by Bumrah, which did not fetch a lot of runs, but the equation was still heavily in favour of South Africa with both Klaasen and Miller at the crease. India were under pressure and needed something to work in their favour, and that is when Pant decided to fake an injury.

Everyone was concerned about Pant's fitness due to his gruesome accident, and that is why his antics of calling physios looked genuine at that time. However, it was just a tactic to break the momentum, which Pant revealed after the win.

Rishabh Pant's Smart Move, A Surprise For Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, too, was surprised by his wicketkeeper injury at that time but later called it a smart move. However, on the occasion of the first anniversary, Rohit shared some more insights on the incident while speaking to Star Sports, as mentioned by Hindustan Times.

The Hitman revealed that Hardik was going to bowl the next over, and so he was discussing the plan with the pacer. He added that he genuinely thought that Pant had injured himself and was scared because of his accident.

Rohit, though, admitted that he later understood that it was just a momentum-breaking tactic, and it worked in their favour, with Hardik dismissing Heinrich Klaasen.

"See, Hardik has come to bowl there. So, we were discussing with Hardik what to do. I didn't know what had happened before. I genuinely thought that something had happened to him. The accident he had, I thought he was just trying to. But actually, it was just to stop the game a little bit. The momentum was with them. So, it was very important to break that. So, I think we went back to that. Eventually, Hardik dismissed Klaasen."

Overall, it was a game with lot of interesting stories, and this Rishabh Pant's fake injury antics would go down as one of the smartest moves of that match.
