'Tendulkar Ka Record Todega…': Wasim Akram Praises Virat Kohli For Timely Runs vs SL

Amidst tense pressure and an early Rohit Sharma dismissal, Virat Kohli sculpted 88 carefree runs against Sri Lanka during their recent World Cup 2023 standoff in Mumbai. The batting veteran forged 189 runs for the second wicket with Shubman Gill to lead India’s recovery, before pacers drained the last ounce of life from Sri Lanka’s troubled batting order to script a 302-run win for their country.

Remarkably, Kohli looked all settled to punch his 49th ODI century at one stage before he was dismissed by Dilshan Madushanka against the run-of-play. Nonetheless, the legendary batter has received much adulation from none other than Pakistan great Wasim Akram for his match-winning effort.

Praising the Indian run-machine, Akram described him as a “complete batter” and also backed him to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of ODI centuries.

Wasim Akram praises Virat Kohli

Wasim Akram praised Virat Kohli for pulling Team India out of early dismissal by scoring timely runs for his side. The legendary speedster also hailed the scoring rate maintained by the Indian batters throughout the innings, in spite of losing wickets at critical junctures. While speaking on A Sports, he said:

“Timely runs, because they lost their first wicket with just four runs on the board. Virat Kohli scored 88. You see, experience matters. When wickets fell, they kept scoring five an over, four an over.”

Akram also described Virat Kohli as one of the best batters in the world and backed him to break Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of most ODI centuries. He added:

“He will break Sachin Tendulkar record; he is only one century away right now. One Kohli settles in, he just plays shots at his will against spin, medium pace, against the fast bowlers. A complete batter, one of the best in the world.”

Virat Kohli’s 88-run effort marked his fifth 50-plus score of the 2023 World Cup to be placed at number two in the leading run-getters chart. The cricketer can enhance his record further when Team India takes on South Africa and Netherlands in their remaining group fixtures.
