The Indian team brutalized Sri Lanka by 300 runs to punch their tickets into the 2023 World Cup semi-finals. Playing in front of a packed crowd at the Wankhede Stadium, the ‘Men in Blue’ received overwhelming support from fans at the iconic venue.

Anushka Sharma, Bollywood actress and wife of India’s batting legend Virat Kohli, also extended her cheers for the Indian team, albeit from social media as Rohit Sharma’s troops preserved their unbeaten run in the tournament with yet another all-round masterclass.

Anushka Sharma, wife of Virat Kohli, has attended a number of Team India fixtures in the ongoing 2023 World Cup. While she could not attend their high-profile showdown against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium, the Bollywood actress cheered for the team by sharing a heartfelt message on her Instagram account.

Re-sharing a picture of a celebrating Indian bunch, Anushka Sharma wrote:

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli led India’s recovery in the match following the early dismissal of Indian captain and in-form opening batsman Rohit Sharma. Kohli forged 189 runs with Shubman Gill for the second wicket before both were dismissed in quick succession at the brink of their respective centuries.

Shreya Iyer whacked a 56-ball 82 while Ravindra Jadeja provided death-overs surge to take Team India to a colossal 357-8 from their 50 overs.

Sri Lanka, in their run-chase, lost both their openers for first-ball ducks to India’s searing speedsters Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Emboldened by their early strikes, Mohammed Shami snared five wickets of his own from five overs to become India’s leading wicket-taker across all World Cup matches.

The Indian team sealed the two points on offer and booked a place in the semis, and will now face a marauding South African bunch in possibly their most intense challenge yet for their next World Cup 2023 encounter.
