It was one of the glorifying moments in Indian cricketing and sporting history as the women's cricket team returned victorious from China, earning shining gold medals and adding a number to the country's tally in the ongoing Asian Games. Beating Sri Lanka in the finals of the event by 19 runs ensured that they ended up on the top of the podium and celebrated the victory.

Stand-in skipper for Harmanpreet Kaur in the first two matches, Smriti Mandhana did a commendable job both with the bat and her captaincy. The left-hander, who scored 46 runs in the finals, spoke in an event organized by Redbull, where she answered a few questions regarding herself.

Mandhana first explained the importance of staying fit, which is done by doing strenuous exercises and meditation. Adding that, she doesn't like to stay in one place, so meditation keeps her calm before the game.

“Staying fit is a priority, especially when you are on tour, and the rigorous schedule puts you on the field day in and day out. I always do guided meditation before a match, I cannot sit in one place, so that’s the reason I opt for guided meditation. I also practice yoga a bit.

“I follow a fitness regimen that includes cardio and strength training daily during the pre-season. This routine typically spans five days a week, and for the remaining two days, I typically engage in swimming and recovery exercises,”

Smriti further emphasised on how winning a gold medal is an achievement that can match nothing. Citing Olympic Gold Medalist Neeraj Chopra's example, she revealed that during the flag hoisting ceremony, she was in tears when the National Anthem played.

“This is really special. I remember watching Neeraj Chopra win the gold medal on TV. The other day, when the National Anthem played for us, and the flag was hoisted, it brought tears to my eyes. It was a truly remarkable moment. Personally, I’m overjoyed that we could make a meaningful contribution to the country’s medal tally.”

Mandhana has been India's most consistent batter over the years, and it would not be wrong to say that she finally got what she deserved.
