In the most recent development, Conde Riley, who serves as the president of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) – a constituent of Cricket West Indies (CWI), has stated that he holds official documents designating Barbados as the host for the 2024 T20 World Cup final.
However, this claim was earlier denied by key CWI authorities. Here's what Conde Riley, a longstanding president of the BCA, told Cricbuzz on Wednesday:
"Yes, that's correct. We have documentation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and CWI suggesting that Barbados will be the venue for the final."
Riley earlier made a similar claim on the Mason & Guest Radio program in the Caribbean:
"Based on the documents from Cricket West Indies and the ICC, Barbados will host the final, a semi-final, and several games, including matches involving India and England.”
However, CWI president Kishore Shallow countered Barbados' statement, stating that he is unaware of such details. Here is what he told the same radio program:
"Based on the submissions to the ICC for consideration, the venues for the final and the semi-finals would be Barbados, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago. There has been no communication from the ICC to Cricket West Indies regarding the finals.”
He further stated that the final decision rests with the International Cricket Council, and it will be reached during their meeting in India in November.
Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Guyana, St Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago, and St Vincent & The Grenadines as the seven Caribbean venues that will host matches during the T20 World Cup 2024 from 4 to 20 June.
Meanwhile, the USA is also set to co-host the marquee event for the first time, with Grand Prairie in Dallas, Broward County in Florida, and Nassau County in New York confirmed as the venues.
