As English cricket fans gear up for another action-packed domestic season, a major global star is set to steal the spotlight. Pakistan’s star bowler, Mohammad Ali, is set to make his way to England’s domestic circuit.
For a short-term period, Ali is set to join Nottinghamshire with a multiformat deal. The Pakistan star will feature in both the One-Day Cup and the County Championship, adding firepower to their campaign.
Pakistan pacer Mohammad Ali to sign for Nottinghamshire
Over the years, global stars have graced the English domestic circuit, and the 2026 edition is set to welcome another superstar. Pakistan’s ace bowler Mohammad Ali will join the team for the short term. In his stint for the final two months of the season, he is all set to feature in the Metro Bank One Day Cup and the Rothesay County Championship.
The Pakistani speedster has convincing stats in domestic cricket and also showcased his excellence in limited international appearances. In 59 first-class matches, he secured 222 wickets with an impressive economy rate of 3.22. Adding to this, he played 40 List A matches and secured 48 scalps.
Making his Test debut for Pakistan in 2022, he played four matches and secured six wickets. He earned his ODI cap earlier this year against New Zealand, claiming a solitary wicket in what remains his only appearance for the Men in Green so far.
Ali eyes big impact in English conditions
Ahead of a new chapter in his career, the Pakistan pacer is buzzing with excitement for the journey ahead. The Pakistan bowler will get a great chance to sharpen his skills in challenging English conditions. Before stepping into the big stage, he is looking forward to making an impact for the side.
“I have always wanted to play county cricket and get experience of English conditions, so I am excited to have that chance. Trent Bridge is a really famous ground around the world, so I am really looking forward to playing there and helping Nottinghamshire to achieve success. Being able to play red-ball and white-ball cricket is exciting, and I am looking forward to helping the team at an important time in the season,” he said.
Paul Franks delights in welcoming Mohammad Ali
Nottinghamshire’s assistant head coach, Paul Franks, is all excited to have him in the side. The duo has history, having worked together at Central Punjab during the 2022-23 season. As the player-coach duo has united again, Franks opened up on their bond.
“It was Mohammad's character and personality that really hit home for me when I coached him while in Pakistan. That's what's kept him on our radar ever since, and I've kept a really strong relationship with him, from a distance,” he said.
“We speak regularly, and we've explored other opportunities to bring him to the club in the past, but this one felt like it was at a really good time for him and for us. He's a real pleasure to coach,” he added.
Mohammad Ali has been a familiar face in Pakistan’s domestic circuit. Despite limited international appearances, he thrived on every given stage. As he is set to start a new journey with Nottinghamshire, fans are expecting some fireworks from him.
