'Take A Look At His Record..', Ravi Shastri Hails SA Legend During Centurion Test

The Indian cricket team has had its share of moments while playing Test cricket overseas. However, the South African conditions haven't exactly been favourable to the Indian side, considering it is the only place in the world where they have failed to win a Test series.

The two tours in 2013 and 2018 were the ones where the Indian team had a chance, but they couldn't succeed. Former Indian cricketer and commentator Ravi Shastri, while commentating during the ongoing game, gave his verdict on the matter, stating that they lost because of one man.

Shastri mentioned that the Proteas side won those series because of pacer Vernon Philander, who was equally dangerous when compared to the likes of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel. He further reckoned that India would have both those series if this man wasn't there.

Ravi made those comments during the pre-show of the first Test where Philander was standing alongside him.

"This is India's best chance, you know why? Because this bloke is not playing. We would have beaten South Africa at least twice when I came here but for this fellow. We've seen Rabada's record, Ngidi's record. Take a look at his record as well against India. He always gets the important wickets when we don't want one to fall," Shastri said.

During those two series, India and South Africa were involved in five Test matches where the former could win just one game. Meanwhile, the right-armer picked up 25 wickets in total in those five outings while averaging 18.

Talking about the current game, the visitors are having a tough time in the middle as going into tea, they are seven down for 176 with KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah still at the crease while Kagiso Rabada has been the pick of the bowlers with a fifer already.
