The World Cup 2023 is just around the corner, and former cricketers have started to pick their favourite teams in the upcoming edition of the mega event.

Former India cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar, has also opined on the same and has surprisingly omitted India and Pakistan from his favourite teams in the World Cup. Interestingly, the legendary batter has gone ahead with the defending champions, England.

Gavaskar reckons that the England team possesses a formidable squad, capable of challenging for the title. He also believes that England has world-class all-rounders, who can change the face of the game.

Here's what he said:

“The defending champions, England, because of the kind of talent that they have at, at the top of the order, the batting order, they’ve got two or three world-class all-rounders who can change the game with both bat and ball. They’ve also got a very good bowling line-up, an experienced bowling line-up, so at the moment in my book certainly,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Irfan Pathan backs India top win the trophy

Another former cricketer, Irfan Pathan has expressed his views on the World Cup favourites. However, unlike Gavaskar, Pathan has backed the Indian team to go all the way and win the World Cup. He stated that the recent performamces in the Asia Cup 2023 will bring in loads of confidence in the Indian team.

“I’m very excited to see how India performs, and I really think they are one of the favorites, for sure because especially last couple of series, like Asia Cup, and the way India played against Australia as well in the home conditions. I think they are ticking all the boxes,” Pathan said.

Team India will commence their World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8. The Men in Blue will be eager to capture their third 50-over World title.
