Shubman Gill gets slammed [Source: @cric_insane]
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is facing heavy criticism for what many are calling a double standard in how it disciplines players on the field. This comes after Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was fined and penalized for an aggressive send-off during the ongoing Test match at Lord’s, while his teammate Shubman Gill appeared to escape punishment for swearing on live TV.
Stuart Broad Slams ICC’s Decision
Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad didn't hold back when he took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to criticise the ICC. Broad said,
"Find this ridiculous. Siraj 15% for aggressive celebration. Gill swears live on tv & carries on and what? It’s either both or neither. Players aren’t and shouldn’t be robots but consistency is key"

Broad was referring to the incident where Mohammed Siraj let out a loud roar in Ben Duckett’s face after dismissing him cheaply on day four of the third Test at Lord's. Siraj was fined 15% of his match fee and handed a demerit point for breaching the ICC’s Code of Conduct, specifically for behavioir that could provoke an aggressive reaction from the batter.
This isn’t Siraj’s first offense. He had received a demerit point during a Test in Adelaide last year for a similar fiery send-off. Now with two demerit points in a 24-month period, he’s halfway to a suspension.
In contrast, Shubman Gill was caught on the stump mic using foul language during day three of the match, while expressing frustration at what he claimed was time-wasting by the English side. Yet, there has been no official action from the ICC.
As of the end of day four, England were bowled out for 192 in their second innings. India ended the day at 58/4, still needing 135 runs to win. With 14 wickets falling on day four, tensions are high going into the final day of this intense Test match at Lord’s.
