Rumours of Mohammed Shami being out of SRH ahead of the IPL mini auction for the 2026 season have been out and spreading like fire for quite a long time now. Adding fuel to the buzz, TOI journalist Sahil Malhotra attributed to sources almost confirming the SRH star's exit.

Shami's fitness prospects and IPL 2025 performance were not up to the mark. After a string of injuries and a year-long setback with a leg injury, Shami was out of cricketing action for a while before returning to the 2025 season. SRH management is not happy with this on-and-off sub-par Shami and is set to release him.

Mohammed Shami falls out of favour

Speaking in an exclusive interview for TOI Sports, journalist Sahil Malhotra shared that Sunrisers Hyderabad is now aggressive with cutting ties with underperforming players. Sahil stressed that SRH is now focusing on winning the title more than ever.

"SRH are in offensive mode as far as this season is concerned. The message has been sent ki boss ab title chahiye. They have invested a lot in the current setup under Pat Cummins. Brand and all everything is fine but at the end of the day, the owners are ruthless as far as winning is concerned," Sahil said in the video.

Since their inception back in 2013, the Kavya Maran-co-owned franchise has managed to bag only one title win back in 2016. Since then, they have been parched with a decade-long title drought.

To fight this, as per Sahil, SRH have come to aggressive terms to fend off players like Mohammed Shami, as they were unhappy with his performance and subpar fitness levels.

"Unhone message de diya hai IPL auction se pehle jo bhi karna hai. Mohammed Shami is probably way out of the team now because the team management was very disappointed with Shami's fitness and performance last season. Because SRH needs to win the title, and they can go to any boundaries to win the title," Sahil said.

Shami's fall and SRH's future plan

Mohammed Shami's performance in IPL 2025 was not impressive at all. From the 9 matches he played, he bagged only 6 wickets. His economy rate was also sky-high at 11.23. His last season with GT was somewhat better back in 2023, when he bagged 28 wickets from 17 matches at an economy rate of 8.03.

If SRH plans to release Mohammed Shami from his duties, they will need a strike bowler in their squad. Mitchell Starc can be one viable option, or they would like to get their hands on their ex-player T. Natarajan, who is currently playing for Delhi Capitals.
