While Bangladesh haven't been the dominant side against West Indies in a head-to-head contest in ODI format, the bowlers that Bengal Tigers produce were pure class in these encounters.
The Bangladesh Cricket team is all set to host the West Indies for a white-ball series, and the squad boasts some popular names from the bowling and all-rounder departments who have had history with the Red Giants.
From skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz to forgotten bowlers, here's a full list of Bangladesh bowlers who took the most wickets for the team against the West Indies in ODIs.
5) Abdur Razzak (19 wickets)
Abdur Razzak, one of the lesser celebrated names in Bangladesh's cricket, had been one of the spin wonders against the West Indies in ODIs. In a country which is full of left-arm spinners, Razzak was probably the best. Razzak took 19 wickets against the West Indies from his 15 matches at an economy rate of 4.90.
His best figures against the West Indies stand at 4/39, where he tumbled the Caribbean batting crew back in 2009 to defend a target of 247. Bangladesh won that game by 52 runs as Razzak secured his Man of the Match award.
4) Shakib Al Hasan (24 wickets)
Shakib Al Hasan, the ex-skipper and probably one of the finest all-rounders of the country, finds his place in fourth place on this list. From his 21 outings, Shakib managed to bag 24 wickets at an economy rate of 3.76. His form didn't wane too much during his peak, where he was the magical left-arm spinner alongside his aggressive batting.
Shakib's best against West Indies with the ball came at Mirpur back in 2021, where he managed with his career best figures of 4/8 against the Jason Mohammed-led side. Shakib tore through the top and middle order to wrap the side for just 122 runs.
3) Mehidy Hasan Miraz (27 wickets)
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the current Bangladesh skipper, will be heading for the ODI series against the West Indies starting from October 18, and he will enter the contest with confidence. Mehidy stands third on this list with his 27 wickets from 19 matches at an economy rate of 4.34. He also bagged 10 maiden overs while having an economy rate of 4.34 against the West Indies.
His best innings against the West Indies stands at 4/25 back in 2021 at Mirpur. Miraz was playing under skipper Tamim Iqbal, where he managed to scalp four from his 9.4 overs to wrap up the West Indies for just 148 runs. He was also awarded the Player of the Match as Bangladesh sealed a comfortable win by 7 wickets.
2) Mustafizur Rahman (28 wickets)
Mustafizur Rahman, aka Fizz, has been the backbone of Bangladesh's pace department for a long time now. In ODIs, similarly, he has been instrumental with the ball against West Indies. he scalped 28 wickets from just 16 matches while having an economy rate of 4.88.
He last played against the team back in 2022, but his best came when he was a bit younger. In 2019, during a tri-series clash, Mustafizur managed to bamboozle the Caribbeans with a 4-fer for just 43 runs. The Jason Holder-led team was restricted to 247, and Bangladesh chased the target comfortably with 5 wickets remaining.
1) Mashrafe Mortaza (30 wickets)
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, the Bangladesh pace great, had been the wrecker-in-chief against the West Indies with his 30 wickets from 19 matches. The 42-year-old had a career marred with injuries and setbacks, yet he was a man of spirited comebacks. Mortaza's last encounter against the West Indies was back in 2019, as he summed up his career against the team with an economy rate of 4.64.
Mortaza had his best figures against Bangladesh back in 2018 during a tri-series, where he managed to get 4 wickets. He gave away just 43 runs from his 9 overs to run through the Caribbean side's top and lower-middle order.
