Despite a powerful start by Bangladesh, the Indian team put in an excellent bowling performance, limiting the Bangladesh side to a modest 256/8 in 50 overs during Thursday's World Cup 2023 clash at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

IND vs BAN: Jadeja's stunning catch the show in Pune ODI

Having won the toss and decided to bat first, Bangladesh's openers started the innings on a dominant note, stitching a 93-run partnership for the first wicket inside 15 overs. However, the Indian bowling attack quickly adapted to the pace of the game, employing clever strategies to slow down Bangladesh's run flow.

Ravindra Jadeja emerged as the most effective bowler for the home side, finishing with an impressive 2-38 in his ten overs. Pace spearheads Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj chipped in with two wickets each. Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav made valuable contributions by claiming a wicket apiece.

In the interval following the first innings, Jadeja expressed his views on the match's conditions and the pitch. He conveyed that the pitch was exceptional and displayed no signs of turn. The southpaw indicated that with the surface being so flat and conducive to batting, the Indian batsmen would have an advantage if they adhered to the basics of the game.

“I think the wicket is excellent. There was no turn on the wicket, so I think if we play normal simple cricket, we could go through,” said Jadeja.

Additionally, while discussing his celebrations after grabbing a screamer to dismiss Mushfiqur Rahim, Jadeja humorously pointed to the team's internal fielding award.

He hinted at his eagerness to be recognised by the team's fielding coach, showcasing a camaraderie that the Indian team shares off the field.

“I think that celebration was for our fielding coach because after every game we get the best fielder award from him, so I was just telling him that I am also here so please look at me whenever we finish the game,” added the southpaw.

With a competitive target, the onus now lies on the Indian batters to capitalise on the favourable pitch conditions and chase down the score to make it four wins in a row.
