India’s new Test captain, Shubman Gill, has confirmed that his team will hold a 10-day camp in London and an intra-squad game to prepare for the five-Test series against England. Currently, the India A team is already in the UK for warm-up games.
Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir held a press conference ahead of the team’s departure to England for the five-game Test series, which is set to begin on June 20.
Currently, India A’s squad is playing warm-up games against England Lions, and the rest of the squad will also fly soon.
Shubman Gill Shares Details On India’s Warm-Up Plans
Meanwhile, during the press conference, India’s newly elected Test captain, Shubman Gill, confirmed that the team plans on holding a 10-day practice camp followed by an intra-squad game in London.
This will help the team to prepare with the red ball ahead of the lengthy 5-game series against England.
"We have a ten day camp in London, one intra-squad game and we still have time to decide the batting order," Gill said.
The majority of players in the 18-member squad are coming fresh off the IPL 2025 season, which lasted for 2 months. Hence, necessary practice with the red ball will help them adjust to the conditions before the series’ curtain raiser on June 20.
Interestingly, Gill refused to provide details on India’s potential batting order. For the first time in the last many years, India will be playing a Test series without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Naturally, the shoes in the top border are huge to fill, and hence, Shubman insists on taking his time to make a mindful decision.
Gambhir addresses uncertainty over Jasprit Bumrah’s availability
While announcing India’s squad for the England tour, chief selector Ajit Agarkar hinted that key pacer Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to be available for all five Tests. Meanwhile, head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed the speculations around Bumrah’s workload management and said that the fast bowler will play only a few selected games. Depending on results and how the series pans out, the team will take a collective call on which games Bumrah should be allowed to rest.
