Shubman Gill is one of the most highly rated young cricketers in world cricket, and has now been handed vice-captaincy duties in both ODI and T20I format. The 24-year-old recently led India to a 4-1 series win in Zimbabwe and it seems that selectors have decided him to groom as India's new captain.

There has been criticism of elevating Gill to vice-captain's role, but at the same there are many who feel that he is the right choice, and one of them is Vikram Rathour, who was the batting coach of India during T20 World Cup 2024.

Rathour Praises Shubman Gill's Leadership

Rathour while taking to Indian express praised Shubman Gill's leadership skills and mentioned that whatever he has seen of Gill's captaincy in IPL and Zimbabwe, he has seen good body language from the youngster. He also went onto add that exctra responsibility will bring the best out of the right-handed batter just like it did with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

“Whatever I have seen of him, be it for the Gujarat Titans or in Zimbabwe, he did a good job. He has shown terrific body language, which is a must if you are leading a side. Now with the vice-captaincy, the BCCI has given him extra responsibility, and I am sure he will thrive in this role."

The former batting coach and selector also mentioned that being in a leadership group will help him grow and will help him grow from strength to strength. He also made a bold prediction that Shubman Gill will go onto lead India in all three formats.

“I feel captaincy brought the best out of Virat and Rohit, and I feel it will do the same for Shubman. Although he is not yet the captain, being in the leadership group will bring the best out of him as well. This is something I am very sure of. When you are in that role, leading others, it gives you that extra bit of responsibility, which is good and I think is great for a young kid like Shubman, who one day might lead India in all three formats."

India are all set to play white-ball series against Sri Lanka starting on 27th of July, and it would be interesting to see how India go about their business under new head coach Gautam Gambhir.
