With one eye on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, BCCI have opted to field young players into the Indian squad for their upcoming five-match T20I series against West Indies, beginning August 3.
The selectors have excluded the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja and enforced new blood with the inclusion of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Mukesh Kumar, and Ravi Bishnoi with all-rounder Hardik Pandya captaining the T20I side.
While Rohit and Kohli could potentially be dropped for good, Jadeja remains a crucial cog in India's white-ball plans for the future. Speaking on his YouTube channel, former India opener Aakash Chopra believes that Jadeja's omission is only to balance his workload and nothing else.
Here's what Chopra said
"Axar Patel will be first in this race because Ravindra Jadeja's name is not there. I am assuming it is part of workload management. There shouldn't be any question marks over Ravindra Jadeja in terms of T20Is, just my thought, but he will play Tests and ODIs as well. So you say that he can rest a little. You should play Axar Patel and then you have got other spinning options as well. So that could be the thinking."
Jadeja is part of India's Test and One-Day International (ODI) series, which will be played before the T20Is. The first Test at Dominica commences July 12.
Overall, in 64 T20Is since 2009, Jadeja has scored 457 runs and claimed 51 wickets.
