There will be eight teams- Brisbane Heat, Perth Scorchers, Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades, Hobart Hurricanes, Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder- who will battle it out in 40 group-stage matches to qualify for the finals comprising four games- the qualifier, the knock out, the challenger and the final.

The group-stage fixtures have been reduced significantly to attract the masses. The twelfth season of the league saw Perth Scorchers lift the title by defeating Brisbane Heat in the final.

Meanwhile, experienced Australian spinner Adam Zampa has been traded to Melbourne Renegades in exchange of keeper-batter Sam Harper, who will represent the Stars in the tournament.

The Stars General Manager Blair Crouch said,

"We're thrilled to be able to secure the services of Sam, who is an outstanding person and we're looking forward to seeing him behind the stumps in BBL|13. Last year Sam also showed he is a more than capable with the bat and was the Renegades second-highest run scorer behind Aaron Finch."

Meanwhile, swashbuckling finisher Tim David is set to stay with Hobart Hurricanes until at least the end of BBL 14 following a one-year contract extension.
