Former Pakistan cricketer Imad Wasim has shared valuable insights and advice for current T20I captain Shaheen Afridi as Pakistan gears up for the T20 World Cup 2024. In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Imad clarified that talks of his potential return to the national team did not occur during their participation in the International League T20 (ILT20).

Imad emphasized the importance of Shaheen trusting his instincts and prioritizing Pakistan's interests above all else. He urged Shaheen to approach every decision with sincerity, ensuring the nation's well-being remains paramount.

"Shaheen is like my younger brother. He should prioritize what is best for Pakistan cricket and approach everything with sincerity, in my opinion. He is surrounded by people who can offer him wise suggestions."

Reflecting on Pakistan's recent T20I series loss to New Zealand, Imad highlighted Babar Azam's impressive performance batting at number three, scoring three consecutive fifties. He also suggested that Mohammad Rizwan should be prepared to adapt to different batting positions if necessary.

"Babar did a great job adjusting to batting at one down. He hit three back-to-back fifty scores. If Rizwan is asked to bat down the order, he should also adjust accordingly, Imad added.

"Shaheen made a smart choice by trying out different opening combinations. Before the World Cup, it would be better for him if he kept trying out different combinations. They can return to Babar and Rizwan as the opening pair if the new lineups are unsuccessful."

Imad, who retired from international cricket last year after an illustrious eight-year career, brings a wealth of experience to his counsel. The 35-year-old made his international debut in May 2015 against Zimbabwe, representing Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is.

Imad currently participates in the ILT20 for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, where Shaheen Afridi also showcases his talent with the Desert Vipers.

Shaheen Afridi, the current T20I captain of the Pakistan cricket team, led the team in their recent T20I series against New Zealand, marking his first series as captain. Having played 57 T20I matches so far, Shaheen's experience combined with Imad's advice may play a crucial role in Pakistan's journey towards the T20 World Cup 2024.
