As India gears up to take on West Indies in the second ODI, legendary pacer, Curtly Ambrose has lauded Indian batter Virat Kohli's inimitable batting style. In a recent episode of the 'Khul Ke' YouTube channel, Ambrose applauded the aesthetics and efficiency of Kohli's play, dubbing it as extremely pleasant to watch.
'Easy on the eyes, can score quickly': Ambrose's acclaim for Kohli
Amidst extensive debates surrounding Kohli's skills and proficiency in the shorter format of cricket, his ability to score quick runs and accelerate when needed has been a topic of contention.
Nevertheless, those criticisms have been effectively silenced as Ambrose emphatically asserted that the 34-year-old possesses the capability to score rapid runs at will.
Drawing a comparison between Rohit Sharma and Kohli, Ambrose commended the former's ability to adopt an aggressive stance as required.
"Rohit Sharma, the skipper. Wonderful player..can be aggressive when he wants to," said Ambrose.
The West Indian veteran emphasized that while Kohli might not fit the classic definition of a six-hitter, his style and efficiency are equally, if not more, engaging.
"(Kohli is) Very pleasant to watch, easy on the eyes, can score quickly without getting aggressive. He is not like a six-hitter per se. Not that he can't do it. He can score as quickly as guys you call six-hitters. But wonderful player as well. He is great to watch," concluded the 59-year-old.
Meanwhile, despite Kohli not having a chance to bat in the first ODI, Ambrose's compliments came in the wake of his brilliant century in the second Test match in Trinidad. The performance was an exhibition of the Indian stalwart's proficient play, an attribute that has consistently set him apart.
As India readies itself for the second ODI, all eyes are on Kohli who is on the verge of a significant landmark. The former skipper is just 102 runs shy of crossing the 13,000 run mark in ODIs and considering his exceptional form, it’s likely he will reach the milestone in the ongoing series.
