In a significant development, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has provided a massive update on the Asia Cup trophy chaos. Notably, the ICC recently held a meeting in Dubai, attended by Saikia and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Contrary to the rumours that the ICC has set up a special committee to resolve the issues between the two boards, Saikia has cleared the air and stated that the Jay Shah-led council has rather fixed a separate private meeting with the two boards in the presence of an ICC official to come to a solution.

Saikia talks about private meeting with PCB

"Our whole country is eagerly waiting for the trophy that India won in August during the Asia Cup in Dubai. However, the trophy has not arrived yet, so everyone, including the BCCI, is eagerly waiting. In both the informal and formal board meetings, I was present, and the PCB chairperson, Mr Naqvi, was also there," remarked Saikia speaking to PTI.

"But during the formal meeting, this matter was not on the agenda. However, the ICC facilitated a separate meeting between the PCB chief and me in the presence of a senior ICC official. It was a positive step to begin the negotiation process. Both sides participated cordially in the meeting held on the sidelines of the board meeting. I am sure that both sides will work out a solution to this issue at the earliest possible time," he added.

Asia Cup trophy still locked in ACC headquarters

For the unversed, the Asia Cup trophy is currently with Naqvi, lying at the ACC headquarters, as the PCB head fled away from the scene after the final and kept the trophy locked in his office and has instructed everyone not to enter the room without permission.
