Indian Women's Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter Uma Chetry was felicitated by Assam's Minister of Sports & Youth Welfare, Nandita Gorlosa, for her contributions in the Women in Blue squad, who lifted the historic Women's World Cup trophy on November 2.

Assam's own daughter, Uma, who received her maiden international cap from Smriti Mandhana on October 26, had limited appearances in the tournament, but her home state credited her achievement for being part of a squad that made history for the nation.

Assam acknowledges Uma's contributions

Uma received several accolades from the Chief Minister as she went in for a chat to be welcomed by flowers, a trophy, stoles and a traditional Assamese hat too.

The official social media handle, Chief Minister Assam, took to X and wrote, "Minister of Sports & Youth Welfare Smt. @GorlosaNandita felicitated Assam's rising cricket star Uma Chetry for her outstanding achievements and contribution to Indian women's cricket. Her success continues to inspire countless young athletes across the state to dream big and aim higher."

Though Uma played as a wicketkeeper-batter in the match against Bangladesh Women, the match was abandoned and the 23-year-old didn't get any opportunity to show off her skills with the bat.

Uma's potential and quick peek at future

The UP Warriorz Women player should not be underestimated, as she was the second-highest run-scorer in the Domestic T20 Challenger Trophy. During the competition, she achieved her only century, scoring an impressive 122 runs off 71 balls, which was the only hundred in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Uma received her maiden cap for the national jersey and will be fighting to keep her spot in the playing XI. As of now, she is more of an option in place of Richa Ghosh in the Indian setup. A few good knocks and agility behind the wickets might be the deal breaker for the young Assam cricketer if she gets another hit in an international outing.
