South African cricketer David Bedingham punched out an attacking 56 against India at Centurion in the first Test of their two-match series in late December. The occasion also marked his maiden Test outing for his country, as he received his first international cap after playing 86 first-class games across South Africa and England.

A couple of days prior to South Africa’s series-deciding second Test match against the visiting Indians at Cape Town, Bedingham stated that he tries to copy Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s batting technique whenever he undergoes a bad patch in his career.

Bedingham says Kohli, Sharma among his favourites

South African middle-order batsman David Bedingham recently named Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma among his favourite Indian players. The 29-year-old also stated that he tried moulding his batting technique like South African greats Jacques Kallis and Herschelle Gibbs during his younger days.

Bedingham, however, further claimed that he would also copy the batting styles of Kohli and Sharma whenever he endured a bad outing. While speaking with the PTI, he said:

“My two favorites among Indian players are Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma - I think when I was 18, I was trying to mould my technique like Kallis and Gibbs and when I had a bad game - I changed my technique to copy (Virat) Kohli's or try probably (Rohit) Sharma's.”

David Bedingham belted seven boundaries to score 56 runs in his maiden Test innings against India at Centurion late December. The cricketer shared a match-defining 131-run partnership with senior man and stand-in skipper Dean Elgar, thus setting up his side’s emphatic innings win on Day 3.

He will now turn up for South Africa in the second Test of their two-match series at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. The much-awaited contest is set to be played between January 3 and January 7.
