Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra believes Rohit Sharma can single handedly secure a Test match for his side with an impactful innings. The cricketer-turned-commentator also praised the Indian skipper for his attacking mindset and approach with the bat as an opener in Tests.

Sharma, meanwhile, is gearing up to lead his country for the second Test of their five-match series against the visiting Englishmen.

Chopra hails Rohit Sharma’s belligerent approach

Rohit Sharma commenced his Team India journey in Tests back in 2013 and was appointed as their opening batsman for the first time in 2019 during a home series against South Africa. Since his promotion up the batting order, the cricketer has tallied over 2,000 Test runs from just 31 matches at a belligerent strike-rate of nearly 60.

Sharma has so far pounded seven out of his 10 career centuries while countering the new-ball, and has also listed six additional scores of 50 or more.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra praised Sharma’s attacking mindset while opening the innings, and claimed that the latter can single handedly secure a Test match for his country. While taking to his YouTube channel, he said:

“Rohit Sharma is such an opening batsman who plays an innings in Test cricket & single handedly takes the match to such a position from where you cannot lose the match.”

Rohit Sharma recently scored a brisk 39 against England in the first Test at Hyderabad. Despite his opening blitz at the top, Team India faltered in their run-chase and ended up losing the match by 28 runs to 0-1 down in the five-match series.

The seasoned campaigner will now lead his Indian troops in the must-win second Test at Vizag’s Dr. Y. S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium between February 2 and February 6.
