Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been facing heavy criticism lately. After a challenging Bengaluru Test against New Zealand, Rohit found himself under scanner. Rohit opted to bat first, despite overcast conditions. However, the decision turn out to be a nightmare, which led India to their lowest home total of 46. In a historic upset, India lost by eight wickets to New Zealand, marking the Kiwis’ first-ever Test win on Indian soil in 36 years. Rohit’s cautious approach in the second Test in Pune also drew criticism, as India lost again, allowing New Zealand to win their first Test series victory in India.
Amid the criticism, former India opener Shikhar Dhawan came forward to support Rohit Sharma. Speaking to India Today, Dhawan emphasised that cricket is not just about wins and losses. According to Dhawan, the team feels the usual game pressure, but it doesn’t weigh them down.
“The pressure you all talk about isn't something we feel. While there is pressure in the game, we don't dwell on losses or wins; that's part of the game," Dhawan told. "I feel that's neither a fair nor a practical approach toward anything," he added.
Dhawan highlighted a unique side of Rohit’s leadership, explaining that a captain’s role extends beyond the scoreboard.
"As a cricketer, we don't think that way. And Rohit is a great leader; it's not just about winning and losing. There's a bond, the team's connection with its leader, and how much they look up to him," Dhawan further added.
Rohit Sharma Joins Unwanted List As Indian Captain

This win gave New Zealand an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series. The final match will take place on November 1 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
