The switch of captaincy has not worked in favour of Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) so far. Rohit Sharma fans have criticised the decision to appointing Hardik Pandya as the captain of MI.

Mumbai have had a disheartening start in the cash-rich league and has been placed at the bottom of the points table. The franchise has lost three consecutive matches in a row and their recent defeat to Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium by six wickets was really disappointing.

Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary made a massive statement stating that Rohit Sharma could get back the captaincy of Mumbai Indians after Hardik Pandya's flop show in the Indian Premier League as a captain.

He feels the franchise owners and team management might give Rohit Sharma once again the captaincy to change the team's fortunes.

"I think he felt the pressure with the kind of reception he received. I want to say something big. I have this feeling that during this break," Rohit Sharma could be given back the captaincy from Hardik Pandya.

Pandya was appointed the captain of Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2024. He had a disappointing start losing three games of the season and facing continuous backlash from fans and scrutiny from critics over his and his team's performances on the field.

"It can happen. It's a big call because whatever little I understand about these franchises and owners, they don't hesitate to take calls. They had started it when they took the captaincy from Rohit and gave it to Hardik. Now it's pretty big when you change a captain who has won you five titles. And now that they haven't won a single game the captaincy also looks jaded. Mistakes are happening," Tiwary told Cricbuzz.

The newly appointed captain has made some unusual changes and has faced continuous criticism for his captaincy. Mumbai Indians will play their next match against Delhi Capitals on April 7, 2024, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
