Team India overcame their 192-run target with ease on Day 4 of the fourth Test in Ranchi to seal their home series against England with a match to spare.

Shubman Gill steers India to win after brief collapse

Team India openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal resumed their undefeated overnight stand to dent England’s confidence further in the opening hour of the day. The two cricketers ended up sharing 84 runs for the opening wicket, before the youngster was knocked over by Joe Root for 37.

A couple of overs later, Sharma notched up a fine half-century to take India near the 100-run mark. However, his downfall at the hands of Tom Hartley was followed by a triple-wicket burst from young English spinner Shoaib Bashir as the hosts slipped from 99-1 to 120-5 in a space of 13 overs.

Fortunately for Team India, number three Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel added the remaining 72 runs together, with the former bringing up his own half-century at the brink of the finishing line.

Dhruv, who top-scored for India in the first innings, tallied an unbeaten 39 as the hosts sealed the Ranchi Test by five wickets.

The outcome also handed India a 3-1 lead in the five-match series, and the two teams will now head to Dharamshala for the dead-rubber on March 7.
