India’s young batting sensation, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has opened up about one of the funniest and slightly embarrassing moments of his career, which is the time Rohit Sharma left him behind at the team hotel in Australia.

The incident took place before the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in December last year, and it has now become the talk of the town after Jaiswal finally shared what really happened.

Yashasvi Jaiswal reveals why he was left behind by the team and made to apologise

Speaking on Raj Shamani’s YouTube podcast, Yashasvi Jaiswal revealed that he missed the team bus in Adelaide due to a simple mix-up, in that he mistook the departure time for the arrival time.

“Oh, I thought our arrival time was our departure time, so I got a little confused. The scolding wasn’t that bad. I said, ‘Sir, it was a genuine mistake and I am very sorry.’ He said, ‘It’s okay, but be aware.’ He also said if I feel unsure, I can talk about it," Jaiswal said.

Hence, as punishment for late arrival, the team bus left, leaving Jaiswal stranded. Rohit Sharma, the then captain, reportedly came out of the bus to check what had happened before deciding to leave without Jaiswal

The logistics team later arranged a car to take the young opener to the airport. When asked if Rohit scolded him afterwards, Jaiswal clarified that it wasn’t too harsh and he made him apologise to the team.

"Rohit bhai was very funny in those moments as well - funny in a good way, like a little entertaining. He asked me to apologise to everyone. When I saw the bus had left without me, I said, ‘Okay, fine, I deserved that and I accept the punishment. I should be on time. How could I miss it? I shouldn’t have missed it.'" he added.

Regardless of the confusion, Yashasvi Jaiswal had an impressive tour, scoring 391 runs in 10 innings, including a brilliant century, finishing as India’s second-highest run-scorer in the series.

The tour was also notable as it was the last Test series for legends Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
