Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been the talk of the town after being left out of the Asia Cup 2025 team and then not making it to India’s T20I squad for the upcoming series against Australia. The 23-year-old, who made his international debut in 2023, has already built a strong reputation with his impressive performances in both Test cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Indian opener stays positive despite not getting picked
Despite his consistency, Jaiswal found himself out of the national team’s plans in the shortest format. The young batter recently spoke about the situation during a podcast with Raj Shamani, where he shared how he deals with such disappointments.
Remaining calm and grounded, Jaiswal said,
“It’s not my decision, and it’s out of my control. There’s no point thinking about things that aren’t in my hands. I prefer to focus on improving what I can control. I try to live in the present and believe that whatever happens, happens for good.”
He further added, “Whatever is written in my fate, no one can take it from me. And whatever isn’t meant for me, no one can give it.”
Jaiswal has played 23 T20 internationals so far, scoring 723 runs at an average of 36.15 and an impressive strike rate of 164.31. In the IPL 2025 season, he also performed well, scoring 559 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 159.71, proving his ability to dominate in the shorter format.
The last time Jaiswal represented India in T20Is was in 2024 against Sri Lanka. Since then, he hasn’t been part of the T20I setup. However, the young left-hander has been named in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Australia later this month.
