Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider has shared his excitement over Mohammad Rizwan being named the new white-ball captain of Pakistan. Rizwan got off to a fantastic start as captain by leading Pakistan to a historic series win in Australia.
After losing the first match by just two wickets in Melbourne, Pakistan bounced back strong with dominant victories in Adelaide and Perth, winning the series 2-1. This marked their first series win in Australia since 2002.
Haider, who represented Pakistan in international cricket between 2007 and 2010, compared Rizwan's leadership style to that of India's cricket legend MS Dhoni.
"Rizwan is following in Dhoni's footsteps. If you look closely, the way he sets the field, guides the bowlers and encourages players, he gives a glimpse of the legendary Dhoni. Now that Rizwan is the captain, the boys need to be on the same page and support him. Pakistan needs to back Rizwan the way Team India supported Dhoni, "Haider said.
However, Rizwan's captaincy faced challenges in the T20 format. In the first T20I, rain cut the game short to just seven overs per side, and Pakistan fell short, managing only 64 runs, losing nine wickets in the process. Despite a solid fifty from Usman Khan, Pakistan couldn't chase down Australia's modest target of 148 in the second T20I, losing the match.
Mohammad Rizwan Rested As PCB Unveil Playing XI
With the series already decided at 0-2, Pakistan made two changes for the final T20I on November 18 in Hobart. Rizwan, who had been leading the team, was left out of the playing XI. Instead, Salman Ali Agha was handed the captaincy for the last match of the series.
