Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is shaking things up for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. They’ve roped in Omkar Salvi as their new fast-bowling coach – a name that might be low-key but packs a punch in India’s domestic scene.
Who is Omkar Salvi?
Omkar Salvi isn’t new to the IPL. He has had a stint with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as an assistant bowling coach. But his real breakthrough came recently with Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy 2023-24 win and their Irani Cup victory under his guidance. Now, he’s headed to Bangalore, hoping to work the same magic for a team that’s still waiting for that first IPL title.
Salvi isn’t showy; he’s a ‘behind-the-scenes’ kind of guy who doesn’t seek the limelight. He played just one List A game for Railways, so he’s not a big name as a former player. But as a coach, he’s built a solid reputation.
Omkar knows how to get the best out of his players without needing any fanfare. His quiet, no-nonsense style has earned him respect across the board. Even Ajinkya Rahane has praised him, saying you don’t need a high-profile name to be effective.
Can Salvi Help RCB Finally Win?
RCB’s bowling has always been a bit of a headache, especially at Chinnaswamy Stadium with its short boundaries. Salvi’s focus on keeping things simple and sticking to basics might be just what RCB needs.
Notably, RCB has also brought in Dinesh Karthik as their batting coach this season, and both he and Salvi have worked together at KKR, so there’s already a bit of chemistry there.
RCB has come close in the past but is still chasing that first IPL trophy. With Salvi’s experience in building winning teams like Mumbai’s back-to-back Ranji and Irani titles, there’s hope he can help RCB finally get over the line.
