With only a few days remaining before the highly awaited Border Gavaskar Trophy kicks off, there's a lot of anticipation surrounding India's combination for the first Test at Perth. With some marquee players likely missing out due to injuries, it still remains doubtful what the probable XI would exactly be.

However, Sourav Ganguly, one of India's most prolific players, believes that Ravichandran Ashwin is a must-pick for the upcoming mega-clash between India and Australia and that it is guaranteed that a quality spinner like Ashwin is certain to have an impact.

"There is no debate. Ashwin must play. Your best spinner must play. In Test cricket, play specialists. Also, against the number of left-handers in the Australian line-up, Ashwin is certain to have an impact," Ganguly said while speaking to Boria Majumdar on Revsportz.

Ganguly Urges Gambhir And Co To Pick Ashwin

Overall, the right-arm off break has played 105 Tests and picked up 536 wickets. Whereas in Australia, Ashwin has played 10 Tests and scalped 39 wickets. Ashwin has been a little out of touch and lacked the usual charm in his recent outings however Ganguly showed his faith in Ashwin and said that the team should go forward with their best spinner.

"Yes, there is [Ravindra] Jadeja and Washington [Sundar] and both bat well, but you must go in with your best spinner in the first Test. Play with specialist batsmen and bowlers, and that's where Ashwin is my choice," he added.

Meanwhile, the first Test is slated to begin from 22 November, Friday in Perth.
