Former Bangladesh cricketer Mahmudullah Riyad showed his class, guiding Rangpur Riders to a tense win over Sylhet Titans in the BPL. The 39-year-old stayed unbeaten with a quick 34-run knock, reminding fans and critics that experience still matters.

Just a game earlier, Mahmudullah faced heavy criticism after a narrow loss against Rajshahi Warriors. A failed run on the final ball led to defeat in the Super Over, and fingers were pointed at the veteran cricketer despite his long service.

Mahmudullah’s calm response to his doubters in BPL

Countering the criticism from the previous game, Mahmudullah chose action over words and let his bat do the talking. Walking in under pressure with Rangpur needing 67 off 42 on a tricky surface.

Chasing 145, Mahmudullah starred for Rangpur Riders, taking them comfortably over the line for their third win of the BPL 2025-26 season, and later responded to earlier criticism following his failure in the previous match.

“When it comes to delivering, sometimes it happens, sometimes it does not. People often think cricket is very easy. Especially for those who bat in the late middle order in T20s. It is not easy to be consistently successful in that role,” Mahmudulla said after the match.

Mahmudullah keen to add value after Rangpur’s trust at the auction

The BPL auction was a tough moment for the retired Mahmudullah. Overlooked in the first round, the 39-year-old was later picked at base price by Rangpur. The earlier snub clearly hurt the right-handed batter, especially given his decent T20 numbers in recent years.

That disappointment has turned into motivation. Mahmudullah now plays with a point to prove, showing owners and fans that age has not decreased his impact even after his retirement from international cricket in March last year.
