Sri Lanka Cricket has announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026, set to be played in Namibia and Zimbabwe from January 15 to February 6. The tournament offers a major platform for emerging talent from around the globe.
Vimath Dinsara of Royal College, Colombo, has been named captain of the side, while Kingswood College’s Kavija Gamage will serve as vice-captain. The leadership duo reflects Sri Lanka Cricket’s trust in youth-driven direction and composure under pressure.
Sri Lanka ready for global test in ICC U19 World Cup 2026
The 15-member squad brings together players from leading schools across the island, creating a balanced unit with depth in batting, bowling, and all-round options. Selectors have aimed for versatility and adaptability, crucial for conditions expected in parts of southern Africa.
The Sri Lanka U19 team is scheduled to depart for Namibia on January 1, 2026, giving them time to adapt to their conditions and prepare before the marquee event. Early arrival is expected to aid match readiness and team synergy.
Sri Lanka will begin their Group A campaign on January 17 in Windhoek against Japan U19. They will then face Ireland U19 on January 19, followed by a challenging encounter against defending champions Australia U19 on January 23, all in the same venue of Windhoek.
The U19 World Cup comes after a mixed 2025 for Sri Lanka U19. They lost one-day series against Bangladesh and West Indies but showed promise in the U19 Asia Cup before falling to India in the semi-finals.
