Former cricketer Kamran Akmal has strongly criticized Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, urging him to resign if he can’t improve the team’s current situation. Pakistan’s struggles in international cricket continued as they lost the ODI series against New Zealand despite having a 2-0 lead.
The team suffered a heavy 84-run defeat in the final match, adding to their disappointing performances in the T20I series and their early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Pakistan Cricket at Its Lowest Point
Pakistan cricket is going through a tough time. After failing to win a single match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, their poor form continued in the white-ball series against New Zealand. Before the ODI series, Pakistan had already lost the five-match T20I series to the same opponents.
Following these setbacks, Kamran Akmal did not hold back while criticizing PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
"It is shameful. The PCB chairman should think that if he can't control, he should resign and leave. Don't ruin your reputation. If you don't want to do that, then improve the status of the current team," Kamran said on his YouTube channel.
Kamran also pointed out issues with Pakistan’s bowling attack, saying the bowlers lacked discipline in their line and length. He suggested bringing in fresh talent to strengthen the bowling department.
"If Pakistan bowlers can't bowl on such a turf, where will they deliver? In Asia, they say there is nothing for bowlers. On venues where something is on offer, they don't do anything. Should they play disabled players against us? We don't know where to bowl. It means there should be a change," he added.
Pakistan’s batting lineup collapsed early, with half the team getting out by the 21st over at just 65/6. However, Faheem Ashraf and Naseem Shah fought back, helping Pakistan reach a respectable total of 208. Faheem scored 73 off 80 balls, while Naseem contributed 51 off 44.
Despite this effort, Kamran pointed out that Naseem is primarily a bowler, and the team should not rely on him for runs.
“Faheem Ashraf saved us. But we don’t need runs from Naseem; we need wickets from him. Our batters have no strategy. When Babar got out, the entire lineup collapsed. Apart from the coach, no one seemed to regret the result. This is ruining Pakistan cricket,” he said.
Pakistan will now face New Zealand in the third and final ODI of the series on Saturday, April 5, at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.
