The auction for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season took place in Dubai last month, featuring spirited bidding and earning a spot in the record books with remarkable viewership.

The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) reports that the recent mini-auction made history as one of the most-watched, with a 29 percent increase in viewership compared to the IPL auction from the previous year.

Jay Shah, the Secretary of the BCCI, expressed his awe at the remarkable achievement by posting a note on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the ongoing surge in IPL's popularity.

Here’s what Jay Shah wrote in his X post: “Soaring to new heights this season at the @IPL auction with a record-breaking peak of 22.8 million viewers - a remarkable 57% increase from last year! Excellence is our driving force, and we're geared up to transcend boundaries and deliver exhilarating moments for cricket fans worldwide in the upcoming IPL season!”

The 2024 IPL auction etched its mark in history as the INR 20-crore milestone was surpassed for the first time. Mitchell Starc, the Australian pacer, secured the highest bid, joining Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.75 crore.

Pat Cummins, who led Australia to WTC title and lifted the World Cup title last year, also made waves in the headlines as the Australian pacer secured a staggering deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad, valued at a whopping INR 20.5 crore.
