After a horrible winter for the England Women's team down under in Australia, the new English skipper Natalie Sciver-Brunt looks up to the new challenge. Long-time serving captain Heather Knight had to step down after the Women's team's poor showing down under.

Nat Sciver-Brunt Wants To Leave The Ashes Behind

The England Women's team had to face the knee-jerk reaction of losing the Ashes against Australia without a single victory to their name during the entire all-format series.

Long-time skipper Heather Knight had to leave her role as the skipper of the side, after being in the position for more than nine years, which was then followed by the removal of coach John Lewis from his position.

The English Cricket Board (ECB) were in complete distraught, alongside the entire women's team, as they look forward to Nat Sciver-Brunt as the team's new skipper for the upcoming period in all-formats whereas former England legend Charlotte Edwards has taken over as the head coach of the side.

Speaking to Sky Sports Cricket, Sciver-Brunt, who is the newly appointed skipper, has focused on taking some smarter decisions in the future to help the side further, where their focus should be to help their nation win matches.

“I want to try and create some smarter decisions for everybody and help them learn and grow towards that. I guess at the moment our focus is to be improving ourselves and winning some games for England,”

However, when the topic of the Ashes defeat came up, Sciver-Brunt became quite sentimental as she upfront confessed that it was not ideal for them to lose this series without even a single win to their name, and that was when they were playing against arch-rivals Australia in a series like the Ashes.

“Obviously, no one likes going through a series where you don’t win a game and for it to be obviously such a high profile one like the Ashes. I mean, people in our team really want to move on from that. I think any side will say they want to win a World Cup. Anyone you ask within the England side or squad, of course we want to be winning world tournaments,”

Adding to this, she further emphasised the fact that players in her side really want to move on, and forget about the disaster down under, whereas they now focus on winning the World Cups and multi-national tournaments for their nation, England.

England Women Face WI And India In Home Season

Leaving their past behind, the England Women's side will be up against the West Indies women's side first in the white-ball series, where they will be playing three T20Is and as many ODIs, whereas the strong Indian women's team will be facing the Three Lions Women in five T20Is and three one-dayers.

Sciver-Brunt, speaking on this competitive challenge, added that it would be something for the crowd to know that they really care about this game.

“Two very competitive sides are coming over to play and yeah, I guess a great chance for us to be back in front of English crowds and to show everybody the love and care we have for the game.”

Nat Sciver's first challenge will be against the West Indian women's side in the first T20I to be played on May 21st at Canterbury.
