Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star spinner Varun Chakravarthy is gearing up for the IPL 2025 opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), confident in his team’s ability to defend their title. He called RCB a quality team and revealed doing his homework for the big clash.

The IPL 2025 season carnival will begin from March 22 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Defending champions KKR will take on RCB in the tournament opener.

Ahead of the big game, KKR’s mystery spinner and their trump card for the year, Varun Chakravarthy shed light on his preparations for the big game.

Varun Chakravarthy Not Taking RCB Lightly

Varun Chakravarthy has been in sublime form lately, picking up 9 wickets in 3 games of Champions Trophy 2025. His crucial spells helped India clinch the prized trophy.

Meanwhile, as the mystery spinner gears up for the IPL 2025 season opener against RCB, he rated his opponent very highly.

"I've done just the same preparation I did last year. "Definitely excited to be coming up against Virat bhai. Obviously, he has batted well against me and I would want to do well against him. Anyone at this level, you cannot think of it as an easy opposition. Every team in the IPL is as good as the other one. RCB have a quality team, but we have done our homework. I have done my homework too," Varun said in press conference.

While not revealing his strategy, Varun hinted at new variations in his bowling arsenal. He added that sequencing deliveries is more crucial than just having multiple variations.

Rain Threat Looms Over RCB Vs KKR Match

A day before the IPL 2025 opener between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, bad weather had thrown a curveball at both teams.

Heavy drizzle on Friday night compelled the players to wrap up their training sessions early, with ground personnel rushing to cover the playing turf.

IMD has issued an orange alert for Kolkata and surrounding regions, warning of thunderspells, gusty winds, lightning, hailstorms, and moderate rainfall over the next 24 hours. With rain already affecting a KKR intra-squad match earlier this week, concerns over a possible washout are rising.
