Ravi Shastri, the former India coach and current cricket commentator, wrote a heartfelt post mourning the death of his former teammate Hugh Morris, with whom he shared the dressing room at Glamorgan County Cricket Club during the late 1980s and 1990s.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, Shastri penned a lengthy message, offering his sincere condolences to Morris’ family while recalling the memories they created together on and off the field.
"Really gutted to hear of the passing of teammate and captain Hugh Morris. Baanas, God bless your soul. You were honest in whatever you did, and did a bloody good job. Heartfelt condolences to the family. Respect,” Shastri wrote on his official X handle.
How Ravi Shastri and Morris' shared a very close bond
For the uninitiated, Hugh Morris, a former England cricketer and ex-ECB chief, passed away at the age of 62 after a prolonged battle with bowel cancer, which he was diagnosed with in January 2022.
Born in Cardiff, Morris was a distinguished Glamorgan stalwart and a respected England cricketer, later going on to play pivotal leadership roles in cricket administration.
Following his death on December 28, 2025, Ravi Shastri did not forget the camaraderie they shared in the dressing room. Notably, Shastri played four seasons of county cricket for Glamorgan during a period when Viv Richards was also touring with the West Indies. Remarkably, after retiring as players, both remained closely involved in the game.
While Shastri went on to coach Team India, Morris became the managing director of the England and Wales Cricket Board and later served as the CEO of Glamorgan County Cricket Club.
As their paths continued to cross at various meetings, Shastri was deeply affected by the passing of his decades-long friend, who also enjoyed a highly accomplished career with the bat.
Hugh Morris enjoyed a remarkable first-class career, scoring 19,785 runs from 544 innings at an average of 40.29, which included 53 centuries and 98 half-centuries. In List A cricket, he amassed 8,606 runs at an average of 35.85, with 14 centuries and 49 half-centuries to his name.
