As the headlines keep buzzing around the IPL trade talks between the Ravindra Jadeja-Sanju Samson swap for the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals deal, a major ground-breaking revelation has taken IPL fans aback.

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has dropped a bombshell about a secret trade that took place between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants. According to Ashwin, MI have secured a deal with Sanjiv Goenka-owned LSG to acquire Shardul Thakur, and the trade is allegedly complete.

Ashwin hints secret trade between MI and LSG

Ravichandran Ashwin, speaking on his YouTube channel, shared that Mumbai Indians might also look for a replacement for Deepak Chahar as Shardul Thakur is already on the move to the Mumbai Indians camp.

“I don’t see any releases happening from MI. Will they try to secure a replacement for Deepak Chahar, who’s a bit injury-prone? They have secured Shardul Thakur on a trade from LSG,” Ashwin said on the YouTube video as quoted by Cricket.com.

While there has been no official confirmation from either franchise, Ashwin's claim has added a new twist to the ongoing trade buzz.

Shardul, a good alternative for Chahar?

Shardul Thakur, who was a Chennai Super Kings veteran for five seasons, will be moving on to his seventh IPL franchise after previously representing Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders, among others.

Nevertheless, if the claim stands true, Shardul Thakur will be a viable alternative to the injury-prone Deepak Chahar, strengthening MI's bowling depth in the Indian quota of players currently existing.

Shardul Thakur, meanwhile, played 10 matches for Lucknow Super Giants, taking 13 wickets at an average of 28.84 and an economy rate of 11.02. However, his 2025 season contributions might have been nonexistent if LSG hadn't roped him in as a replacement for the injured Mohsin Khan mid-season.
