Indian legend Virat Kohli opted himself out of his side’s first two Tests of the series against England citing personal reasons. After the conclusion of the Vizag Test, Kohli’s former RCB teammate AB De Villiers unveiled that the seasoned veteran took his break because he is expecting his second child with wife Anushka Sharma.

With reports indicating that Kohli’s break might extend beyond the first two Tests of the series, former England captain Nasser Hussain has backed the cricketer’s decision of prioritising his life for a change.

Nasser Hussain backs Virat Kohli

Former England cricketer and expert commentator Nasser Hussain described Virat Kohli as one of the “greatest ever” to play the game, and hailed his longevity and contributions to the sport.

He further backed the cricketer’s decision of spending time with his family, citing that private life always comes first.

“Virat Kohli is one of the greatest to ever play the game and any series and any side would miss someone of the stature of Kohli. The game needs to look after Virat Kohli as well. He's been playing international cricket for more than 15 years now and if he needs a break to be away with family… get some time away from the game, we absolutely wish Virat Kohli all the best. But Kohli, and his family and his private life has to come first," the former English captain said on Sky Sports.

Even though Nasser Hussain backed Virat Kohli’s decision of stepping away from the series, the former English cricketer does believe that the latter’s absence will be felt by the Indian team. A couple of days after the conclusion of the Vizag Test, Hussain claimed that Team India will not be as ruthless in their remaining three matches without Kohli in the playing XI.

The Indian team is scheduled to face England in the third Test at Rajkot’s Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium between February 15 and February 19.

Under Rohit Sharma, the hosts trounced the visitors by 106 runs at Vizag to bring the five-match series to levelling terms.
