Team India doused Pakistan by five wickets in a final-over thriller to win the 2025 Asia Cup in Dubai on Sunday, September 28. A day after the nail-biting final, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unwavering support for the national team.

Hailing Modi’s leadership, the Indian skipper said that the prime minister’s work ethics motivated his troops to play more “freely” on the field.

Suryakumar Yadav credits PM Modi for Indian team’s mindset

While speaking with a Times Now reporter a day after India’s Asia Cup 2025 win over Pakistan in Dubai, Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav praised prime minister Narendra Modi. Describing Modi as a “strong leader”, the seasoned Indian batter claimed that the leader’s work ethics motivated Team India players to play their aggressive and natural game with a “relaxed mind”.

“It’s great to see a strong leader like PM Modi standing by our side, we just need to step out and play our game with a relaxed mind,” remarked Suryakumar Yadav.

Shortly after Rinku Singh notched up the winning runs for Team India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the Indian team. Modi even compared India’s victory to the successful ‘Operation Sindoor’ carried out by the Indian Army on Pakistan’s terror bases earlier this year, as a response to the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack that took the lives of 26 civilians.

IND vs PAK final: As it happened

Pakistan batted first and raced to 87-1 at the halfway stage of the innings. Eventually reaching a commanding 113-1, a dramatic batting collapse orchestrated by Kuldeep Yadav (4-30), Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy and Jasprit Bumrah ensured that the ‘Men in Green’ folded up for just 146 in 19.1 overs.

Pakistan fast bowlers jolted India’s top-order in response, but a commanding knock from Tilak Varma (69*) and calculated cameos from Shivam Dube and Sanju Samson steered Team India to a clinical five-wicket win.
