Former Indian cricketer Balwinder Singh Sandhu has added his voice to the ongoing controversy surrounding Virat Kohli’s strike rate in ongoing IPL 2024. Joining the ranks of critics, Sandhu emphasized the importance of constructive feedback in the realm of professional sports.

As the spat between Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar escalated, Sandhu stressed the significance of players accepting criticism as a means of improvement.

He highlighted the need for athletes to view commentary from experienced professionals as an opportunity for growth rather than a personal attack.

Here's what Sandhu said:

“If a senior cricketer in the commentary box makes factually correct comments, the player being criticised should take it as constructive feedback and strive to improve their skills, ensuring performances answer the criticism. Instead, players often overreact to protect their reputation and fan base, regardless of whether the comments are personal, issue-based or factually correct.”

The former right-arm pacer reminisced about a time when players engaged in respectful dialogues with legends of the game, using their feedback to refine their skills.

However, he expressed concern over the current trend of players prioritizing social media presence and financial gains over their role as ambassadors for the sport.

Drawing from his own experience as a former right-arm fast bowler for India, Sandhu underscored the importance of humility and receptiveness to feedback. He urged today’s players to emulate the spirit of sportsmanship and dedication exhibited by past generations.

RCB are now set to take on Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL match on May 18.
