The Champions Trophy 2025 has been ensnared in controversy with India playing all their games in Dubai despite Pakistan being the official host of the tournament. The debate over whether this gives India an unfair advantage has been a raging topic.

However, a fresh twist has emerged. Australian captain Pat Cummins has publicly refuted a quote attributed to him regarding India's scheduling.

Cummins Shuts Down The Lies

A post by CODE Cricket quoted Cummins as saying that India had been given an unfair advantage by playing all their matches in Dubai while the rest of the teams had to move between Pakistan and UAE.

The quote suggested that Cummins had indirectly called out the ICC’s decision, stating, "You can’t pick and choose where you play and where you’re not going to play. It makes a farce of these tournaments."

However, Pat Cummins wasted no time in setting the record straight. Taking to X, the Aussie skipper directly called out CODE Cricket for misquoting him, stating,

"I have definitely never said this @codecricketaus."

His response went viral in no time with fans questioning the legitimacy of several reports surrounding the tournament.

The Champions Trophy 2025 Scheduling Controversy

The controversy stems from India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns which led to a hybrid model where all of India's matches are played in Dubai. The move drew a lot of criticism with many arguing that it disrupts the competitive balance of the tournament.

Many believe that the neutral venue deal has favoured India and has allowed them to play in familiar conditions without having to adjust to different pitches.

What Cummins Actually Said?

While the Australian captain has clarified that the fabricated quote was false, he did speak to Yahoo Sport Australia about the scheduling. His actual statement was more diplomatic where he acknowledged that the hybrid model allowed the tournament to go ahead but also recognizing that it was a major advantage for India.

"I think it's good that the tournament can go on, but obviously it does give them (India) a huge advantage playing on the same ground. They already look very strong and they've got that obvious benefit of playing all their games there," Cummins had told Yahoo.

Meanwhile, with the Champions Trophy 2025 heating up, the focus should ideally be on the cricket. However, with controversies piling up, it seems the off-field drama is proving just as intense as the on-field battles.
