India has been bossing the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, brushing aside Bangladesh and Pakistan with ease in Dubai. With a semi-final spot nearly sealed, their final group-stage fixture against New Zealand on Sunday might just be a dress rehearsal before the knockout stage.
Pat Cummins Questions India’s Home-Like Comfort in Dubai
But not everyone is thrilled with how things are shaping up, and Australian skipper Pat Cummins isn’t mincing words. The Aussie pacer has raised eyebrows over India playing all their matches in Dubai, calling it a “huge advantage” that tilts the competition in their favour.
Speaking to Yahoo Sport Australia, Cummins didn’t shy away from pointing out that India’s decision to stay away from Pakistan due to security concerns has resulted in a hybrid format, where Rohit Sharma & Co. have set up camp in Dubai for the entire tournament. And the Aussie captain believes that gives them an unfair edge.
"I think it's good that the tournament can go on, but obviously it does give them (India) a huge advantage playing on the same ground. They already look very strong, and they've got that obvious benefit of playing all their games there," Cummins remarked.
While Cummins has been missing in action from this edition of the Champions Trophy, his words have sparked a debate: does playing at a single venue give India an unfair advantage? Or is this just another classic case of teams looking for an excuse when India dominates an ICC event?
Cummins’ Absence and His IPL 2025 Return
While Australia is fighting it out in Pakistan, Cummins has been away from the action for a mix of personal and professional reasons. The Aussie quick chose to skip the Champions Trophy to be with his family for the birth of his second child and to recover from an ankle injury that has kept him sidelined.
However, the SunRisers Hyderabad captain has confirmed that he is gearing up for a return in IPL 2025 where he will once again lead SRH after guiding them to the final last season, only to fall short against Kolkata Knight Riders.
"It's been nice to be at home with everything going on, and the ankle rehab is tracking well. I'll start running and bowling this week. There's the IPL next month, and then we've got the Test World Championship and a tour to the West Indies, so there's a lot to look forward to," Cummins stated.
His return to competitive cricket will be a massive boost for SRH, who will be aiming to go one step further this time.
