India’s new batting sensation Abhishek Sharma has been setting the cricketing world on fire with his fearless strokeplay and audacious shot-making. The Men in Blue’s rising star was in attendance for the high-octane Champions Trophy 2025 clash between India and Pakistan in Dubai, where he caught up with two legendary pacers from across the border – Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar.

If Wasim Akram’s praise was a feather in Abhishek Sharma’s cap, Shoaib Akhtar’s admiration was the icing on the cake. The Rawalpindi Express had a rather amusing yet profound take on the young batter’s blistering performances.

“I’m glad that I wasn’t born in this era,” said Akhtar, before going on to shower praises on Abhishek’s incredible batting display.

“The reason why people like this young lad is because he got a 100, and I watched your innings. It was fantastic, amazing,” he added.

What’s Next for Abhishek Sharma?

After his stunning start to international cricket, Abhishek Sharma will next be seen donning the orange jersey of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2025. Having already cemented his spot in the franchise, SRH showed their faith by retaining him for the 18th season of the tournament.

With the kind of form and confidence he’s carrying, expect him to light up the IPL just like he has been doing for India in T20Is. If his recent performances are anything to go by, the young gun is just getting started, and there are plenty of fireworks yet to come.
