If reports are to be believed then Pakistan is all set to make some big and major changes to its coaching staff following the national team’s disappointing performance in the ongoing 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. According to sources, interim head coach Aaqib Javed and his support team are set to be dismissed after Pakistan’s early exit from the tournament.
Pakistan Out Of Champions Trophy 2025
Pakistan's semi-final hopes were shattered following back-to-back losses to New Zealand and India in the group stages, and they were dependent on other teams' performances. The two losses were not narrow, with Pakistan losing to New Zealand by 60 runs and to India by six wickets. Despite banking on Bangladesh to defeat the Kiwis last night, their prayers went in vain as the Bangla Tigers themselves got eliminated from the tournament.
Pakistan To Make Stern Changes
A PCB source, quoted by PTI, disclosed that the board is mulling over whether to redesign the selection committee too, and that talks will be held with the Board of Governors on the issue. Although there is still the option of having red and white-ball head coaches, the attention now will be on finding new leadership and support staff following the Champions Trophy fiasco.
“The PCB, after the way Kirsten and Gillispie resigned, is not going to get a choice of field when it comes to foreign coaches, so most probably the PCB will look at former players for the job," the source said.
Loss to the tournament is a big disappointment, as it's the first ICC tournament played in Pakistan after 1996. The PCB was expecting much better but will now have the task of appointing competent individuals to replace those who left posts, particularly coming off a period of one year of uncertainty and constant change at the coaching ranks. The board will likely fast-track the recruitment of new coaches before Pakistan tour New Zealand next month.
